Play with Dunbartonshire Concert Band

New players are always welcome, whether you’re returning to an instrument after years away or joining a band for the first time.

Experienced players

Standard: We play at around Grade 5 and above, and we ask all players to be at least Grade 5 or equivalent. There are no auditions.

Currently looking for: tenor trombone players.

What we ask of members: regular personal practice, and a firm commitment to attend Saturday morning rehearsals and play in our concerts.

Returners and beginners

New players are supported by their section, who will help you find your feet. We don’t offer official tuition, but some of our members offer their own private tutoring.

If you’d like to see whether the band is right for you, you can request a trial rehearsal.

Young players

There is no minimum age. Whether a younger player joins is at the discretion of their parent or guardian, and we welcome and encourage young people and children. The band is committed to being a safe environment for them, and has a child protection policy that sets out clear procedures if any concern is raised.

Questions people ask

Do I need to audition?

There are no auditions to join Dunbartonshire Concert Band. We do ask that you get in touch before coming along, so we can welcome you properly and make sure we have a seat, music and a place for you at rehearsal.

Can I borrow an instrument?

We ask players to bring their own instrument and equipment to each rehearsal. If you don’t have an instrument yet, get in touch and we’ll do our best to help.

What does it cost?

There are annual subscription fees due each year. £110 (full), £65 (retired), or £50 (non-tax payer) – charged pro rata for new members joining mid-session.

How often does the band perform?

We perform as often as we can. We have two main concerts a year for Summer and Christmas, with community concerts spread throughout our session.

Not a player? You can still help.
